Why I started marketriskinterview.com

I’m writing this post to put down concretely my motivation for starting this website / blog. In a world full of distractions, I believe it’s important to write down your goals so that you can maintain the laser focus on them and always keep your eye (or mine, in fact) on the prize!

Without further ado, here they are.

A Desire to help others

One of the best ways to help others is by sharing your knowledge and experience, which doesn’t cost you much, but can potentially benefit others a lot. My mentor back in Singapore Management University once told me, and I remember it till this day: “Whether or not I meet you (for mentoring), I’ll still have to go for lunch.”

Yes, putting down my thoughts in a blog does require some effort; but if it can benefit numerous people far beyond this “cost”, why not?

A Knowledge Repository

A website / blog is perhaps a great way to store knowledge i.e. a knowledge repository and a place I can easily revisit when I have to recall something. The human brain has limited capacity and blogging serves as a nice way to archive this knowledge I’ve acquired over time (that I don’t use often and hence, may forget).

The fact that it’s on the internet makes it even better – that I can check it out wherever I am.

A Potential Side-Hustle

While I don’t think about monetization at this very early stage, this could potentially evolve into something bigger – only time will tell. If I (and my future team?) can add enough value to you, my audience, I’m sure you will be happy to pay me. If you’re not happy, I don’t want to take your money anyway.

To be clear – I love my day job as a risk manager, but I would also like to diversify my sources of income to make myself more antifragile (been reading Nassim Taleb’s Antifragile lately).

A Challenge

Writing has never been my thing and I really don’t think I’m good at it. However, I realise that it’s necessary for communication and someone who can write well is truly empowered to share their knowledge and experience and inspire the world. Hence, I want to improve at this.

I read something along these lines recently: you’ll get good at something at the 100th time, not before your 1st. So this is my 1st, and I know I will get better, so long as I persist.
